Etiquette for the Black Man chronicles the current state of life for young black men in America. While acknowledging that many black men have made tremendous strides professionally and personally, author Clyde Farris, takes an in-depth look at the problems and poor behaviors that exist for some. The ever increasing crime and drug abuse in our communities are typically at the hand of our young black males. Armed with this information Farris suggest that we must all work together to change the behavior of the culprits in order to improve the quality of life in our communities.
Ever since the proliferation of drugs in the 1980’s along with the continued emergence of the Hip-Hop culture, our society has seen a drastic decline in what is considered to be acceptable behavior from our black men, especially our young black men. While the music is not entirely to blame, some of its lyrics and practices, though popular, are found to be symptomatic, such as the openly disrespecting black woman. Likewise, the spread of drugs in many black communities has continued to create broken families, dangerous communities, and ruined lives.
Finally, a self-help book we can read and discuss with young black males that urges them to take responsibility for their actions, while providing them with the tools needed for personal improvement. Etiquette for the Black Man relies on Biblical principles, courteous manners, and common sense to teach BLACK MEN of all ages how to live a better life.
Author Clyde Farris has always been concerned about the plight of black males in America. As a talk show host, big brother and a mentor, Clyde has seen first-hand what an environment can do to a young man. He has always been conscience of the daily struggles of that environment and how they are creating some of the broken men, women and children. Farris firmly believes in the age old adage “if you know better than you do better..”, Farris authored his new book, Etiquette for the Black Man, in hopes that it will serve as a guide to young men and mentors alike.
Men are tough and unyielding, so I tried to write what I felt was right without holding anything back. I didn’t want black men or youth to sense I was tap dancing around hard issues. The world doesn’t cut us any slack, so there is no reason for us to shy away from our issues and problems. – Clyde Farris
Etiquette for the Black Man was written as as one black man speaking to another with a no holds barred approach, draped in unarmed truth and unconditional love, with the hopes of improving the lives of black men and youth.
